We’re starting the year off with some excitement – we have a new campaign video! It is called “A Campaign of Ideas.” Please do check it out and share it as widely as possible. Luke, the videographer, is now full-time on the campaign, so expect many more videos in the future.
Not everything is video – tonight my interview with Freakonomics drops, so keep an ear out for that! I enjoyed speaking with Stephen Dubner a great deal and am excited to hear the segment.
I spent this past weekend in Schenectady, NY, where I was born. My father worked for GE Research and my mother for Blue Cross Blue Shield in town. It was an incredible trip. I saw longtime friends of my family whom I had not seen in decades. The turnout was amazing.
I had dinner with dozens of local leaders. The trip was covered in both the local paper and on NBC. It’s fun to be the lead story in your hometown for an evening. It was one of the most energizing nights of the campaign thus far.
Tomorrow, I am heading back to New Hampshire to meet with the Fassi family – the first recipients of the Freedom Dividend – and to speak with local press. Jodie, Chuck, and Janelle’s story has already been covered by CNBC and NPR, with WMUR in New Hampshire and Vice also set to interview them. People have taken a huge interest in the idea that getting $1,000 a month will improve people’s lives. I’ll also be at Bookery giving a talk on Friday from 7-8:30pm (Facebook link) – if you’re in the area, please come by!
Last, on a personal note, this Sunday is my 44th birthday. I’ll be celebrating with my family upstate after the New Hampshire trip. The Freedom Dividend, I believe, would mean that families could spend more time together. That is something worth fighting for.
